Spring Clutch

Post by Tanner »

Dad found these neat little clutches (ahem - tiny clutches) which are really quite neat.

From what I calculate, they're best clutch (250 in pounds) would only be able to support 10 pound force from a 0.6 m kicker radius. Not really our application.

Anyone, some of the stuff on their website is good Google search terms. I'm getting Dad to call them tomorrow to get some more info/more knowledge in the specific area.

These are interesting...

They've got several different sizes, and seem very simple to use with a simple design.

Hm...just reading over how it works, and I don't "quite" understand how it works.

EDIT: After a little more thought, it looks like this would be more beneficial in the end game than the kicker...unless I'm still not understanding it right.

Dad says the roller clutches work differently like in a bike somehow, but I'm not sure how we couldn't use them in the robot. I should ask Landers about it tomorrow.

Landers didn't know anything about roller clutches.

Did find some more clutches:

Not sure how those work, but there's not a single mention of electricity.

Ugh....

I wish we were building robots in the 1700's... everything was mechanical back then....

This system is extremely interesting. I don't quite understand their pneumatic setup, but I'd definitely love to get my hands on it.

Looks similar to what we did on Saturday, but .................... using two cylinders, one to push at the bottom and another pulling at the top of the arm with some tubing to help.
