Team 1261

Basically, we spend all morning, 0830-1300, stripping the armature of everything so there was just a shaft. We needed the shaft to extend out of the existing motor so we cut into the metal plates that made of the field magnet. Now the shaft extends about 7/8". By using the same motor mounts and all, the impeller is stable. The shaft size is the same as on a cim motor, so we can install whatever sprocket we want. The picture just had a hub on it for shaft size checking and just to show how it looks.

We can mount a small #25 sprocket on the blower and a larger one on the cim.

I think it is good to go. We have to figure out how to securely mount the blower/vac assy to align with a cim. Should not be too hard.

The field magnet metal is where all the weight is. My thinking, if this works, would be to make this metal assy out of aluminum or some type of plastic, nylon, for weight.

I want to power up and test on Thursday.

Using the highly accurate bathroom scale of science (tm), I get a total weight of 18 pounds. Dad says its that entire metal block casing for the motor is weighing it down. The rest is plastic.

Holy Crap, that's a lot more than I expected...I didn't think it weighted 18 pounds when I was handling it. We'd definitely have to take care of that if we're gonna use it.

As I said, highly accurate bathroom scale of science. Does feel quite heavy though. About a good brick's weight.

Plus if we don't like how it works, we can always attach another piece of tubing to it and blow the balls around like Dallas suggested earlier.

I do want to replace the big piece of steel, but that requires milling on plastic or alum.

I might be wrong, but I remember last year that either Forsyth or North had offered to let us use their machine shop.

We used the scale we have in our shop, and we got the weight of the impeller to be 5 pounds with sprocket.
