Hi all,

Looking over our website, I think it may be better to change the platform from Wordpress to an official Content Management System (aka a CMS). Wordpress is nice, but it's interesting and more times there's a lot of research to be done to do anything.

I don't know, but several good CMS's can be found below:

Thoughts?

If I do recall, the old website was also Joomla?

I don't mind, but I think that it is very important to integrate media in with content. Which ever system will allow us to modify the theme to best fit our style while keeping it easy to insert bits of our own media in there is the system that I would prefer.

I think it was, but I don't have an accurate enough date for the records.

Content is key, but I think Joomla or another CMS may be a bit more powerful. Don't quote me for what I say, I've rarely used Joomla outside of a few years ago.

Content will only take us so far. I'm sure by now, each team has a couple of people dedicated to their website and making sure their content is superb. It is the teams that mellifluously integrate that content into the website without being cumbersome or wordy while also maintaining the aesthetic display.

Definitely. The key is to find a balance between the two.

Somehow I stumbled onto the Miss Daisy website and began looking at it. For one, I find it very nice to look at and easy to navigate. Despite their odd use of Flash to just display text (which makes no sense to me at all), I really like their site. It does seem though that it is all hand coded (i.e. I can't find any indication of a CMS or other setup and the source seems pretty organized).

I kinda feel like our website has never gotten to the point where I would want to improve it. It always seem to be in a state where I just want to start all over again (which is pretty much what we have done the past few years).

After working on the GA FIRST site (which runs Joomla) for a while, I think it may be worth while to switch to Joomla. It is very customizable and is pretty easy to use.

Not that I don't think Wordpress is bad, I just don't think it is suited for us. I think the Wordpress code base will eventually catchup with Joomla (the recent 3.0 release is already heading in the right direction), but I don't think it is far enough to be good. Joomla is quite good thus far.

Thoughts? Could at least set up a separate portion on the website for joomla. 'Twould be easy and we could play with it.

And yes I know the gallery doesn't work. Working on that (or rather - waiting for a reply from Sevaa peeps.
