Electric Solenoid Actuator
Electric Solenoid Actuator
I posted a question on the official first forum about an industry standard definition for an electric solenoid actuator.
This is the only real Internet reference I could find:
http://www.tpub.com/content/doe/h1013v2 ... v2_166.htm
The post stays hidden until it is moderated..

Check this post out

Are we allowed to use 12 Volt or pneumatic clutches on the robot?
There is no rule specifically prohibiting the use of clutch mechanisms on the ROBOT. However, these devices may not be used if they contain electric motors and/or servos different from, or in addition to, those in the KOP, solenoid actuators (per Rule <R53>) or pneumatic actuators (such devices are not explicitly permitted by Rule <R72>, and therefore violate Rule <R71>).
Again, they need to define a 'solenoid actuator'

Re: Electric Solenoid Actuator
So, the GDC answered my post:
Can the GDC please provide a definition of an electric solenoid actuators. This is the industry standard definition that we have foundL
http://www.tpub.com/content/doe/h101...1013v2_166.htm
and their response:
We will not provide a specific definition. The commonly-accepted standard definition is sufficient.

Re: Electric Solenoid Actuator
I say we use the electromagnetic clutches we have used before. You guys do the research and let me know.

Heh. The GDC responded.

Though wouldn't it appear as though a electronic solenoid actuator is also a motor?
Edit: Nevermind, that was in reference to Lunacy.

Seems like the tranny is the one remaining option.
While I'm not sure how well it will work, I am convinced that it *will* work.
I'm thinking that in our 'situation', we might want to seek some help. Maybe from Mr. Folea, or someone
from 1771. We're not totally without a paddle, but it can't hurt to ask.

Err - see my edit? That was for Lunacy not Breakaway...

Situation? I can't see it being too hard with a gearbox.

Oh...yeah. I see the forum date/time now. Alright.
I can't see it not working with a gear box either, but just as back up just in case the transmission falls through.

Hahaha, Basically I think that the transmission will work, but I think we need to have more backups.
