http://www.rei.com/search?cat=8000&cat= ... Carabiners

most of these standard climbing carabiners from REI have a strength of 6 KN when open (1350 pounds) and 18 KN closed (4,050 pounds) so really what matters more than strength is how well it fits the bar.

Me thinks "What the heck are ya'll thinking of that needs 1350 pounds of resistance to breaking? And do I want to be near this thing when it fires?"

How exactly would we get the carabiner to attach to the tower? I don't remember this being discussed in the meeting unless we just use the whole 2007 arm idea that swoops up and grabs it then uses some string to pull the rest of the robot up?

These are nice devices, but we need a simple grappling type safe aluminum hook that we can just get close and we are hooked. Trying to get these devices to open and clamp against the pipe willl be hard.

Depends how much force we ram the antenna into the tower, though it probably won't be enough.

Not sure how we'll get a grappling hook to be legal unless it just have these squares with one side missing for arms.

Yeah...if we were to use one of those, we'd have to cut off or sand down the sharp edges.

This particular one is pretty beast:http://www.baledefence.com/grappling_hook.htm

While thinking about a lifting system, I thought of a system to lock us into place. Granted that with a 49.9:1 gearing and 2" radius winch, the CIMs have a stall torque of 224.04 Kg or 439.92 pounds and we can probably implement a ratchet system onto the winch itself, but just in case, I have another locking system.

Not only like the one I linked to because it can hold like 700 kg per one of those little legs, which is like 1543 pounds, but also because apparently it is military grade.

Eh, easier to show then tell. I'll tell if I come tomorrow.

Heh. I'm sure we won't need the much weight. Hopefully. Unless we have a reason to pull the team out through the roof before some ref calls us.

What's being problematic about you coming tomorrow?

I had doctor's appointments/car shopping today, so I could not make it.

Anyone want to fill me in as to what happened at the meeting?
